Bill Irwin Biography

Bill Irwin is a notable American actor, comedian and a clown. He is recognized for his vaudeville-style stage performances and is perhaps solely credited for the popularity of the American circus during the 70s. You could also see Bill in certain moves and appearing on TV, but he also had great success on stage. He received a Tony Award for this Broadway appearance in “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf”. Bill is also the actor behind Mr. Noodle and he appears as him in “Elmo’s Word” and “Sesame Street: Does Air Mover Things”.

During his career Bill has written and created several stage shows which incorporate clowning. Some of the highly noted ones are “The Regard of Flight” (1982), “Largely New York” (1989), “Fool Moon” (1993), “The Harlequin Studies” (2003) and “Mr. Fox: A Rumination” (2004).

But Bill Irwin is also credited as a great actor who has performed really well on stage. He has appeared in several dramatic plays and some that we can note include “Waiting for Godot” (1988), “A Flea in her Ear” (1998) and “The Goat of Who is Sylvia” (2002).

But Bill also managed to find time to appear in movies and TV shows. As far as movies go, Bill mainly appears as a supporting actor and has starred in over 20 of them. His first one is “Popeye” in 1980, where he stared as Harold Hamgravy. Other notable movies that he appeared include “Eight Men Out” (1988), “My Blue Heaven” (1990), “Stepping Out” (1991), “Scenes from a Mall” (1991), “Silent Tongue” (1994), “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” (2000), “Lady in the Water” (2006) and “Rachel Getting Married” (2008).
