Charles Barkley, born Charles Wade Barkley on 20 February 1963, is an American basketball player who retired from the field in December 1999 after rupturing the quadriceps tendon on his left knee. This was sadly a career-ending injury.

Charles started playing basketball in school and even though he was just average, he pushed on. It was not until high school that his talent started shining through. It was while playing in the state high school semi-finals that Charles was spotted by the Auburn University assistant coach.

This “sighting” was the beginning of Charles’s successful career. Charles was offered a sports scholarship to Auburn University where he played basketball for the University while he studied business management.

Because of his strength, agility, and passion for the game, Charles was able to outwit his opponents even though he was much shorter than them.
