Daphne Zuniga is an American film and television actress. You might remember her the most vividly from Fox’s prime-time soap opera Melrose Place (1992-1996) and from a cult comedy “Spaceballs” (1986). Apart from those roles, she also starred in Rob Reiner’s “The Sure Thing” (1985), “Modern Girls” (1986), “The Fly 2” (1989), and most recently on “One Tree Hill (2008-2012) and “Beautiful People”.

Acting is not her only passion. No, she is also a true environmentalist. She is a founding member of the Earth Communications Office (ECO) and she had also (at some point) worked with the Natural Resources Defense Council, The Waterkeeper Alliance, and Environment California.

Zuniga’s Partner and Family

Miss Zuniga was born in San Francisco, California. Her mother is Ages A. Zuniga (maiden name Janowicz) and Joaquin Alberto Zuniga Mazariegos. Her mother is a Unitarian Minister (That’s a Christian Theological movement), and her father was an emeritus professor of philosophy at California State University, East Bay. She has two sisters, Jennifer Zuniga, and Rosario Zuniga. Daphne’s Sister Jennifer Zuniga, also an actress, debuted in the film “A Woman, Her Men, and Her Futon (1992). Her parents are divorced.

It is unclear whether Zuniga has a boyfriend right now or not. Her romantic life, in general, is very obscure. She was in two relationships as far as everyone knows, and that’s it. She was with Jason Gedrck in 1986 and with Emilio Estevez in 1988 (Charlie Sheen’s brother).

Daphne Zuniga Education and Career

Daphne showed interest in acting in her early teens. She attended the Young Conservatory program of the American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco. But she had to move after her parents got divorced. She moved with her mother and sister from California to Reading, Vermont, where she lived throughout her teen years. She graduated from Woodstock Union High School in Woodstock, Vermont in 1980. After that, she was free to do anything. So she returned to California and enrolled at the University of California, Los Angeles. Of course, she wanted to study theater arts. The interesting thing is that she was a roommate with Meg Ryan (also a famous actress).

Daphne started her career in Stephen Carpenters slasher movie “The Dorm That Dripped Blood” (1982). Although she had a supporting role in that movie, it placed her on the radar of other movie companies. That’s how she got her first lead role two years later in “The Initiation” alongside with Vera Miles and Clu Gulager. That one was tough for her because she was very young and inexperienced and the role was difficult because she had to act as two persons, good and evil twin sister.

After that she was in a drama “Vision Quest (1985)”, romantic comedy “The Sure Thing (1985)”, television drama “Stone Pillow (1985)”, comedies “Modern Girls (1986)” and “Spaceballs (1987)”, horror film “The Fly (1988)”, etc.

Romantic movie “The Sure Thing” was one of her first critically acclaimed movies, which was categorized as a “small miracle” because of its character and screenplay qualities.

Daphne Zuniga Melrose Place

This role was maybe a cornerstone of her career. Although she had noticeable roles before this one, the “Melrose Place” printed her face into the minds of a vast television audience. Her character Jo Reynolds was a recurring character from 1992, until 1996.
