John Wesley Shipp is an American actor mostly famous for his numerous roles on TV. You will probably remember him for his various appearances in soap operas. Comic book fans will probably recognize him for playing the original Flash in the 1990 series. On the other hand, he is not a stranger to “Dawson’s Creek” fans, where he played Mitch Leery, the father of the titled character.

John Wesley Shipp started off his career by appearing in various daytime soap operas. He was still young back then and he made a name for himself by appearing on “Guiding Light” where he portrayed the character of Dr. Kelly Nelson. After that he landed roles in “As the World Turns”, “Santa Barbara”, and “All my Children”. But in 1990, he passed the audition to star as Barry Allen on CBS’s “The Flash”. He played the popular DC character for the entirety of the show, or two years, until it came to a close. During the 90s, he would also land roles on NBC’s “Sisters” and WB’s “Dawson’s Creek”. In the latter one he would stay for four years as one of the leading character. He played Mitch Leery, the father of Dawson, and after he left the series he would return once more in season 5 in a recurring role.

Shipp would come back to daytime opera shows once more. In 2010, he stared in “One Life to Life” and played the villain of the show Eddie Ford. Next year, it was announced that he would appear in a CW show as an unnamed character. To everyone’s surprise, he appeared as Henry Allen, the father of Barry Allen in “The Flash”. Making a comeback to the show he used to star in so many years ago, John Wesley Shipp was an ingenious Easter egg to various fans. He played the character of Henry Allen in season one, but would change to Jay Garrcik and play an alternative version of the Flash from a different timeline in seasons two and three. Additionally, John Wesley Shipp also landed his voice to Zoom or Eobard Thawne on an episode of “Batman: The Brave and the Bold”, who is the arch enemy of Flash.
