Koren graduated from “Culinary Institute of America”. We know nothing about her previous education. She began her career in the United States Military in which she served for nine years. Right after she left the army, she started cooking professionally. Her first job that is worth mentioning is at the Kahan’s Blackbird as a sous chef in 1998. Right after that, she became the chef de Cuisine of Avec. Parallel to that job, Koren worked as a floor manager for Avec. She worked there until 2012 when she decided to depart from that position and their management even had to publish an official note about her resignation.

That is when she decided to move to her own business. There are rumors that she opened (or helped to open) a restaurant called “Claudette”. She also opened a restaurant and a gastro bar “Rusto” in 2007. But that was actually not enough for her. So she appeared in many reality TV shows like Top Chef, just to boost up her popularity. Unfortunately, the public eye is only interested in someone’s private life so she gained the most of her popularity when she started dating her fallow chef Anne Burrell.
