Max Kellerman Biography

Max Kellerman is an American sports commentator born on August 6, 1973. He has been married to Erin Manning for the last twenty four years. Other than that, he had some minor roles in movies like Rocky Balboa (2006) and Creed (2015), and a TV Series called Playmakers (2003). All those roles were primarily sports commentators. He is currently a co-host of ESPN talk show First Take alongside Stephen A. Smith and Molly Qerim and a co-host of the sports radio talk show Max & Marcellus with Marcellus Wiley, on ESPNLA.

He was once suspended when he recalled a fight with his then-girlfriend (now wife).

Max Kellerman Career

The very first broadcasting experience for this guy was at a New York City public-access television program on professional boxing called “Max on Boxing”. He was just a teenager. The strange thing about this one is that even though it was very simple show it caught the attention of the boxing community.

After he graduated from Columbia University, Max was hired as an analyst on ESPN. Later on Max got his own radio shows and in 2002 he became the creator of the ESPN’s legendary show called Around the Horn. In spite of its popularity, Max and ESPN were not able to reach agreement for his new contract and Kellerman simply left the network and went to Fox Sports Net where he got his show I, Max. Unfortunately, Max had to take some time off from the show due to a family tragedy. That is why the show got cancelled on February 18, 2005.

Sometime in 2005, a famous American conservative political commentator, Tucker Swanson McNear Carlson announced that Max would be a permanent contributor on his MSNBC show called Tucker. There was a segment in this show called “The Outsider”. The same show was cancelled in 2008.

In the meantime, Kallerman also worked as a part-time broadcaster on WEPN 1050 ESPN Radio in New York City, however, that show also god cancelled on March 9, 2009. Colin Cowherd took his place.

Kellerman was also working, at that same time, for HBO. He was hired to do some “Boxing After Dark” telecasts and worked with Fran Charles and Lennox Lewis.

In 2010, Kellerman started working for ESPNLA 710 alongside former NFL player co-host Marcellus Wiley.

In 2018 HBO finally left the boxing business and Kellerman naturally had to search for a new job. That is why he signed a multiyear contract with ESPN where he covers boxing from the broadcast desk which is totally different from his earlier ringside job at HBO.

Kellerman also had some brief appearances in movies like Rocky Balboa and Creed.

Max Kellerman grew up in the Greenwich Village, New York City. He finished primary school in Greenwich village, Hunter College High School in 1991, and finally graduated from Columbia University in 1998. Kellerman was born in the family of four brothers. His younger brother Sam Kellerman was found dead inside his apartment in the 1400 block of Vista Street in Los Angeles. A former boxer James Butler was arrested and charged with Sam’s murder. He later confessed to the murder.

Max Kellerman is married to Erin Manning and together they have three daughters, Esther, Sam (named after his late brother), and Mira.

Max and his wife Erin were college sweethearts and back in 2014 Kellerman admitted that he hit her in one college party when they were both drunk. That was allegedly a one-time incident that happened a long time ago and never happened again.

Kellerman was suspended for three days for an inappropriate conversation on ESPN-LA Radio surrounding Ray Rice and domestic abuse. On the “Mason & Ireland” show, Kellerman admitted to hitting his girlfriend many years ago. The conversation took place three days after Stephen A. Smith god suspended for saying “women should be careful not to ‘provoke’ any incident of abuse”. Kellerman told about an incident that happened years ago when he and his then-girlfriend Erin (Manning) who is now his wife, attended some college party. Kellerman said that they were drunk and when he tried to “get things under control” she slapped him. Kellerman said that he slapped her back. That got him suspended.

Sam Kellerman was a sportswriter and an actor. He was murdered in his Hollywood apartment on October 12, 2004. Professional boxer James “The Harlem Hammer” Butler was tried, convicted and sentenced to 29 years and four months for the death of Sam Kellerman who was the brother of a famous sports commentator Max Kellerman.

Sam Kellerman grew up in Manhattan and was fifteen months younger than Max. In speaking about his brother, Max Kellerman remembers him as a “creative genius”. According to Max, his brother was “the best writer of his age” and compared his genius to the genius of Mozart.
