His father, who suffered from Alzheimer’s disease, later died. TI had one older sister, Precious who was a regular on his TV show. Precious died in February 2019 after being on life support for a week following a car crash.

TI attended Douglass High School but dropped out before graduating. In his song “Still Ain’t Forgave Myself” he mentions this and one cannot help but feel that he might actually have regretted the move. But that is just speculation.

When he started rapping, TI originally went by the nickname TIP, a name given him by his grandfather. Later in his music life, he changed his name to TI as a sign of respect for Q-Tip, with whom they shared a label.
