Travis VanderZanden Early Life
Travis VandeZanden was born on 7.2.1979. A very little is known about his early life, however, we do know that he lives in Santa Monica, California, because that is where the headquarters of his biggest company to date is located at. We also know that Travis lived in San Francisco, California, while had been working for Uber. Before that, he lived in Belvedere Tiburon, California, and Lafayette, California. He went by a number of different nicknames, including, Tr Vanderzanden and Travis Vander Zanden.
We also know that he is passionate about transportation because his mother allegedly worked as a bus driver for 30 years. So, it’s not strange that he has the most successful scooter-ranting company and that he also worked as a Chief Operating Officer at Lyft and as the VP of International Growth at Uber. Both of those companies are transportation-related companies.
Travis VanderZanden’s Education
Travis VanderZanden went to University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire from 1997 to 2002 and received a Bachelor of Business Administration. He also attended the USC Marshall School of Business and received an MBA from that school while working as a product manager at Qualcomm in 2007.
Travis VanderZanden’s Career
After he left Qualcomm, Travis worked as a Chief Revenue Officer at Yammer, Inc. He worked there from 2009 to 2011 and left them to co-found “Cherry” which was an on-demand car-wash service. That company was bought by Lyft in 2013 when he was brought on as a Chief Operating Officer. Ironically, Travis chose to leave the company that bought his “Cherry” for the rival company called Uber. That is why he got sued by the “Lyft” for breaking his confidentiality agreement. The lawsuit was settled.
Travis left Uber in October of 2016 to found new company – The “Bird”. He did that in Summer of 2017. The scooters that company rented lifted a bit of dust in the world of finance. People started leaving those scooters all around Santa Monica and investors saw that as a sign of popularity and an opportunity to make some money. That made “Bird” one of the most successful new companies in the USA. The company raised hundreds of millions of dollars and has a paper valuation of $2 billion. And over the last six months, Bird released over 1,000 “Birds” all over the city. People love them! However, you can’t educate people about culture. They are living the “Birds” all over the city (in the middle of the street, in front of doorways, in the middle of driveways, and on wheelchair ramps. That rose a bit of controversy.
However, Travis doesn’t care about that. He thinks that his scooters are a nice way of transport. You only need to have a driver’s license and to plug a credit card number into the app. After activating the scooter, it is $1 per ride plus 15 cents per minute. The top speed of this scooter is 15 miles per hour. Some people even made it to LAX and others from Santa Monica into Downtown LA.
