Vanna White Partner and Family
Vanna White was born in North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Unfortunately, her parents divorced when she was only a baby and she was raised by her mother Joan and her stepfather Herbert White Jr. in North Myrtle Beach. Of course, her mother didn’t want to tell her anything until she was certain that Vana would understand. She was born as Vanna Marie Rosich but took her stepfather’s last name. By the way, he was a former real estate agent in, what is now known as, North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
Her love life hasn’t had a perfect beginning. In fact, it was marked with a tragedy. In 1986 her long time boyfriend John Gibson crashed his single-engine plane. He died instantly. To her, that was a serious emotional blow.
In 1990, Vanna White married a restaurant owner, George San Pietro. There was her second tragedy. She got pregnant in September of 1992 and even announced her pregnancy on the show, but she miscarried shortly after that episode was aired. However, she gave birth to her first son Nicholas and in 1997 to her daughter Giovanna (Gigi). Unfortunately, Vanna and Santo Pietro divorced in November 2002.
That didn’t stop her looking for new love, and she was even engaged from 2004 to 2006 to businessman Michael Kaye. They never married.
Vanna White Education and Career
After she graduated from High School, Vanna moved to Atlanta, Georgia. She attended the Atlanta School of Fashion and worked as a model to pay her apartment. Vanna did that because she was too proud to ask her father for some money and that was one of her worst mistakes. She also moved to the L.A in 1979 in order to find some acting job, but she had to go back to South Carolina because her mother was dying of ovarian cancer.
After that, she really tried her best to find any job in the movie industry and she did have her 5 minutes. However, movies like Gypsy Angels (1980), Looker (1981), and Graduation (1981) are easily forgettable and no one even noticed them.
Vanna White Wheel of Fortune
In 1982, her luck turned to better. Amongst 200 other applicants, Vanna was chosen as the best one from the group to join the new host, Pat Sajak, on the NBC game show, Wheel of Fortune. That show became one of the most profitable TV Shows of all time with maximal grossing of $100 million per year.
With her beautiful figure, charming face, and a perfect attitude, Vanna became a huge star. Her fans call the love they have towards her “Vannamania”. Everybody loved her, except the critics who made fun of her acting abilities and her position on the show as someone who only stands there, claps, smiles, shows the prizes and uncover letters. Nevertheless, White became an iconic figure in American pop culture.
In 1987, Vanna wrote her autobiography book called “Vanna Speaks”. In that book, she alone says, “It is not the most intellectual job in the world, but I do have to know letters.”
Vanna White Playboy
One of the toughest parts in her career came that same year, 1978 when Vanna White had to deal with Playboy.
She already had made a name for herself and she was well respected in a world of television. However, remember those modeling jobs she had before she had the job of a co-host? Her boyfriend sold those photos to the Playboy and on those photos, she was posing almost half naked. That was unacceptable to her. She knew Hugh Hefner and moreover, they were friends. That’s why Vanna called Hugh as soon as she found out for the photos, and asked him not to publish those photos. She thought that Playboy would destroy her career. However, Hugh didn’t want to listen, he published those photos and the two of them have never spoken since.
Vanna White Wore More Than 6,500 Different Dresses
Yes, Vanna wore more than 6,500 different dresses for the show. But none of those dresses were hers. She had to return those dresses after the show end. And judging by what she had to say about those dresses, we don’t think that she would like to keep any of them. She didn’t like those skintight dresses although she really liked the look of them, or how those dresses looked on her.
